Aloha again! Capt Dan here speaking from the helm of the Dauntless. The last few weeks have seen some very strange weather for us. I have not seen patterns like these in many years. Lanai has been good on and off but sorta choppy and sloppy. The last big south swell made Shark Fin and Lighthouse the favorite dive sites. The Hammerheads are back! Molokai is very productive but again, the weather has been challenging! Remember the opening scene from the Perfect Storm? 'Nuff said. Molokini has been EPIC to say the least! 200 feet of visibility and tons of sharks, jacks, eels, and even a group of Humpbacks today! Guess they didn't get the memo! On a different note, I have noticed a preponderance of what I like to call the DBA. This stands for the Dreaded Butt Ascent, and is caused when a diver inadvertently does an uncontrolled buoyant ascent. This can be a risky thing to do and at the least you blow your safety stop and penalize your computer and yourself. Remember Boyle's Law, "the volume of a gas is inversely proportionate to the pressure exerted on that gas". That means, when you ascend, your BCD expands and you float up! Remember to vent as you ascend and try not to use your inflator to go up. That's what your fins are for! Well, the summer is shaping up to be a real great season! The weather is stabilizing now and we are ramping up for some cool dives. Hope to see you all soon! Gotta go get my divers out of the water! Later! Capt Dan

Aloha Divers,

Captain Dan here.  After due consideration, I have decided to take over the blog here at LD.  Steve did a great job for quite a while, but now that he is off and running, I felt someone should pick up the slack.  Seeing as I am on the front lines, so to speak and know just about all of you, one way or the other, it became very clear that I should "volunteer" as it were.

I will be updating this blog constantly based on the crazy, interesting, embarassing, and educational things that happen out on our charters on a daily basis.  Be warned, I will be looking for all the goofy things we all do, nutty things we say, strange and unexplainable things that we observe and all the other weird and wonderful things happening out here.  If you have any feedback, observations, questions, or anything else, jump on and let me know.  As you all know, I am not shy, and will endeavor to answer all queries in an honest manner.

So, there you have it.  I will be starting this craziness this week and will be plotting, I mean, preparing our first real blog.  Thought for the day, the record for longest time removing your fins on the ladder is 9 and 1/2 minutes.  Pretty good if you ask me.  Okay, everyone, forewarned is forearmed!  Be seeing all of you very very soon!  (insert evil laugh here)

Aloha,

Capt Dan
